International opportunities
By working with us, you will have many opportunities to work outside your home country for short and long term assignments. DNV GL has 300 offices in 100 countries, and there are many opportunities for working internationally. In addition to expatriate assignments, there are many employees working on projects outside their home country. Even if you remain in one location, you will have contact with many cultures and work with challenging international customers.

Some examples of international opportunities beyond business in DNV GL are:

Our expatriate assignments provide opportunities within the managerial and technical fields of expertise. The duration of these assignments are normally 1-3 years, with possibilities for extension.

A dedicated job rotation programme allows newly hired employees to go through a 3-6 months induction period and then work abroad for 1-2 years before returning to their home country.

The knowledge booster program is created to stimulate knowledge sharing across units and countries by having DNV GL employees working abroad. Our employees get a short term assignment in a DNV GL office abroad. The assignment is linked to both project work and specific training initiatives.

In addition many of our employees work internationally on different types of client projects.

DNV GL’s course catalogue includes more than 170 courses, which gives our employees ample opportunities for further education and development.

We offer a wide range of training and development programs. Our different business areas are responsible for training in the technical fields, with dedicated training units and academies. Due to the nature of our services, many of our positions require documented expertise, which we enable through offering participation in our formal qualification schemes.

Here is a selection of our global training and development programs:

Developing Technical Talent: The Top Tech Program
We have developed a unique training program designed for our employees pursuing a technical career. The program is geared towards our highly accomplished technical experts with a PhD or MSc, a minimum 10 years of relevant experience and at least two years employment with us. The program, called Top Tech, is a collaboration between DNV GL and the University of California, Berkeley. The program is run at the Berkeley campus.

Top Tech focuses on three main areas: technology for sustainability, energy innovations and commercialisation of technology. The program aims to:

  • improve the depth and breadth of our technical leadership so as to capitalise on technology-based business opportunities
  • keep us at the forefront of new technology
  • accelerate the adoption of new technology at DNV GL
  • facilitate global thought leadership within risk management and climate change

Manager Development Program: The Journey
We boasts a global Manager Development Program for managers at different levels in their career. The program is named the The Journey to reflect how we approach management development: as a journey during which continuous development and various challenges meet you as a leader in DNV GL at different management levels. For The Journey, we collaborate with leading educational institutions to prepare and equip our managers with the latest knowledge, perspectives and tools.

Mentoring Programs
There are several different mentoring programs in DNV GL, all designed for the participants to get coaching from experienced managers and experts, develop skills and to build network in our organisation. The mentoring programs target the needs of different employee groups.
Some examples of our current mentoring programs include:

  • a formal technical training program within the maritime field, including mentoring
  • a local mentoring program in Norway for new managers and manager talents
  • an international mentoring program for female technical managers and manager talents. This program is part of a corporate initiative to increase the number of women taking on management roles.

Trainee Programs
For our younger employees, we offer both technical and management trainee programs. Candidates that qualify for these programs are closely followed up by experienced colleagues and benefit from a structured, knowledge-intensive and hands-on learning experience.

Recruitment Scams

It has come to our attention that various individuals or organisations have used our name to solicit advance fees and documentation from applicants in relation to non-existing jobs by sending out letters with what appears to be our company logo.

DNV GL does not ask for money transfers or payments from applicants to secure a job, either as an employee or as a contractor, and will never ask for payments towards travel expenses, travel insurance or visas/work permits, etc. Therefore you should assume that such individuals and organisations are not providing genuine offers or services. During our recruitment process you will always meet in person with a DNV GL employee or representative before any formal offer is made.
