Intelligent lifetime extension for wind turbines
Wind turbines are usually designed for a lifetime of 20 years. After this period the wind turbines have to be de-commissioned regardless of their condition.

In the service specification DNV GL SE 0263 "lifetime extension” a procedure is described, by which the lifetime of wind turbines can be extended depending on the condition of the wind turbine. This procedure is mainly based on calculations using longer lifetime and periodical inspections of the wind turbines. The accuracy of this procedure can be optimized by applying the actual loads on the wind turbine at the specific location instead of using loads based on the wind class. Further on from the periodical inspections the remaining lifetime can barely be estimated.

The introduction of this Joint Industry Project will take place besides the international trade fair and European wind energy conference, WindEnergy Hamburg and WindEurope Summit.

The project aims to produce the following results:

The intended scope for this JIP is to develop a new method for determination of the remaining lifetime of wind turbines from SCADA and CMS data. Outcome of this project for external partners would be the possibility to extend their CMS to LCS (lifetime calculation systems) as well as a revision of the DNVGL-SE-0263 taking the recent results into consideration.
