Probabilistic design methods have been developed in search for a rational basis upon which to assess the reliability of structures operating in a rapidly changing industry. The aim of the project is to gain a deeper understanding of probabilistic design methods and to explore the potential of applying these methods for the optimised design and certification of wind turbines.

The introduction of this Joint Industry Project will take place besides the international trade fair and European wind energy conference, WindEnergy Hamburg and WindEurope Summit.

The project will produce two main documents:

  • An exclusive project report capturing the information and insight from the project will be made available to all project members.
  • In parallel a guidance document will be developed and published as a “Recommended Practice” (RP). The RP will provide an internationally acknowledged design standard for application of probabilistic design methods for wind turbines. The document will be subject to a wider industry stakeholder consultation and later become publicly available.
