Dr Felix Christian Matthes has been a researcher at Öko-Institut since 1991. From 1991 to 1997 he was a senior scientist in the Energy and Climate Division, from 1997 to 2008 he was the Coordinator of the division and since 2008 he has been Research Coordinator for Energy and Climate Policy. From 2002 to 2004 he served as Deputy Director of the Institute.
He graduated as electrical engineer (Diplom-Ingenieur) from Leipzig University of Technology (Technische Hochschule Leipzig) in 1985 and received his doctoral degree in political sciences (Dr.rer.pol.) from Free University of Berlin in 1999.
He has more than 25 years professional experience in research and consultancy, concentrating on energy and climate change issues. He has published numerous studies and publications on German and international energy policy, as well as on environment and climate policy and served at several German and international advisory boards. Key topics of his work include the design, the comparison and the implementation of emissions trading schemes, energy market modelling, energy market design and technology-specific policies as well as medium and long-term decarbonization strategies, the comprehensive assessment and monitoring of energy and cli-mate policy packages and strategies.
