Dr David Hodgson is a Sector Specialist with the Department for International Trade, with a focus on energy and chemicals; working with overseas companies to appreciate the opportunities the UK has to offer in those sectors. David has a degree in chemistry and post-graduate degrees in organic chemistry and electrochemistry.
He started his career in the chemical industry developing technology for the large-scale production of chlorine and associated products. David was attracted to the boom in cleantech start-ups and joined a Cambridge spin-out as CTO in 2005, before moving into a CEO role with a company developing large-scale batteries for energy storage.
David continues to work in the cleantech/hardtech sector supporting companies and universities with their scale-up journey. David has held visiting academic positions at the University of Manchester and UCL and has published sporadically in the scientific literature on electro-catalysis, fuel cell materials, hydrogen and energy storage. David is named inventor on over 15 patents.
