End of November, DNV GL participated the Wind Europe conference & exhibition that took place in Amsterdam. Our DNV GL – Energy CEO Ditlev Engel participated in a panel discussion on 'The outlook for wind in Europe and our future business models' on the opening morning of the conference with other panel members coming from ERG, ENEL, EDPR and GE. This was a great opportunity to discuss with some of the most important players in the wind energy industry.
On the second day, Managing Director Kim Mørk and Head of Global Business Development & Sales Andreas Kamleitner from Renewables Certification presented the outcome of our certification survey Certification for the wind energy of tomorrow that was conducted in the first part of 2017.
Kim and Andreas presented what the industry thinks about the value of certification, how certification schemes for each life-cycle phase should develop and where digitalization can bring a substantial benefit. Please click here to download the final report.
Day 2 of the event was also used for a get together and workshop for the Joint Industry Project (JIP) on optimization of wind power plant operations with presenters coming from DNV GL but also from cooperating companies. The thirteen external participants came from Allianz, CODAN, E.ON, Envision, Greensolver, Innogy, Munich RE, Shell, Swiss Re, Vattenfall and Vestas. Apart from the aim and the status of this project, the agenda also contained different perspectives and challenges on the project.

DNV GL - Energy was present at the German industry event “Windenergietage” in Warnemünde which took place beginning of November (7 – 9). The event participation was a major success. The German event is known for deep technical discussions on hot topics of Wind industry giving the possibility to get in contact with possible customers straightforward.
In cooperation with the magazine SonneWindWärme DNV GL was sharing a forum including presentations and a panel discussions on Optimization of wind farms in the operation phase, Lifetime extension, lessons learned on the first round of onshore tenders and on latest news on Grid Code Compliance. The DNV GL forum was very well received and the given presentations from internal and external speakers received positive feedback from the participants as these were in line with wind industry key topics.
One of our key takeaways is that especially the topic of lifetime extension is still moving the wind industry – far over 70 people joined the 1.5 hours session on 8. November. We have had different perspectives on the topic including the views of a lawyer, an operator, a manufacturer and a certification body. In case you would like to learn more about lifetime extension from a Certification Bodies point of view, please get in touch.
