Speaker bio:

James has been in DNV GL for two years and is responsible for regional sales for Cascade and Cascade Facility Ratings solutions for Electric Grid Reliability and Performance. Prior to joining DNV GL, James spent 15 years working in the utility market for ABB selling high voltage and medium voltage equipment.

FAC-008 Compliance: audit readiness

Facility ratings can pose challenges and the challenge has increased with added scrutiny being placed by Regional Entity Auditors. In this session Ray will review the role of regional entity auditors, how to solve these challenges and be audit ready in the end. 

Speaker bio:

Since 2007, Raymond has been assisting Utilities, Munis and Generation with the challenge to be audit ready for NERC 693 and NERC CIP. For FAC-008, that includes creating a Facility Rating Process, a Facility Rating Methodology and Facility Rating Evidence of Compliance. Prior to providing NERC support, Raymond assisted utilities switching to ISO/RTO mode of operation, Designed and developed distributed process control systems, designed and developed Utility EMS and SCADA systems

Providing sufficient evidence

Dan will discuss how Baltimore Gas & Electric (BG&E) uses the functionality in Cascade Facility Ratings to document independent reviews.  He will also discuss how DNV GL and BG&E are working to develop functionality that documents the inputs of each element used to calculate its ratings at each facility, approval and the ability to retrieve this element level information from history past facility revisions.

Speaker bio: 

Dan worked the first 15 years of his career in nuclear plants which provided him with an appreciation of the rigor of compliance to mandatory standards.  He joined Baltimore Gas & Electric (BG&E) in 2000 where he has worked in Transmission System Operation, Transmission Planning, and Substation Engineering.  For the past two years he has function as Ratings Engineer.  As such, he is responsible establishing and updating all facility ratings at BGE as well as maintaining BGE's FAC-008 compliance program.

Introduction to Cascade Facility Ratings

This session will provide participants with an introductory look inside DNV GL's software solution with a focus on demonstrating the core features supporting better facility rating management.

Henry is a Product Manager with the Electric Grid Team at DNV. His primary product focus is on Cascade Facility Ratings and Cascade Connect applications. Prior to joining DNV GL in February 2020, he had spent 16 years in Melbourne Australia in Project Management and Product Management roles with the Victorian energy regulator and two separate start companies that developed IoT based energy management technologies.

Andy spent over 20 years working for a utility as a IT manager responsible for GIS, OMS, Work Management and other solutions within the T&D department.  Since then he has worked with utilities to help them gain benefits from various solutions including GIS, Design, asset management, and system planning.  He is responsible for account management for Synergi Electric, Cascade and Cascade Facility Ratings for DNV GL for the last 3+ years.

Jim has been with DNV GL since 2010, serving as regional sales manager for Cascade and Cascade Facility Ratings. He now serves as Business Development Manager and has extensive knowledge in the utilities industry.

Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NOPR) addressing Ambient Adjusted Ratings (AAR)

FERC NOPR (Docket No. RM20-16-000: Managing Transmission Line Ratings) implementation of Ambient Adjusted Ratings (AAR) and its impact on transmission system congestion and future grid planning will be discussed.

Speaker bio: 

Charles Gibune has over thirteen years in generation and transmission planning, power flow analysis with an extensive background in conducting economic analysis of transmission and generation projects through LMP process. Included in his experience is the development of processes to identify optimal transmission solutions to mitigate identified transmission system issues. This has led to numerous approved transmission opportunities for the utilities he is assigned to. Mr. Gibune also has very strong experience in performing Full Interconnection Studies (FIS) for generations applying to interconnect to the ERCOT system (which include both steady state and short circuit analysis), Available Transfer Capability (ATC) studies/generation deliverability studies, P-V/QV analysis, reactive power studies, facility study, development of contingency events for Utilities to comply with the NERC TPL-001 through TPL-004 standards. Mr. Gibune currently leads the team responsible for helping clients with compliance related work including but not limited to the following: NERC TPL-001-4 standard, FERC-715 report and filing, NERC MOD026/027 standard.

How Cascade Facility Ratings handles ambient adjusted ratings

This session will focus on how DNV GL's solution delivers accurate, reliable, and consistent ambient adjusted ratings calculations. Participants will be stepped through a basic configuration setup, the ratings approval workflow, and reporting options.

A closer look at IEEE standards and Cascade Facility Ratings

In this session we will look at IEEE 738-2012 (Overhead Line Ratings) and IEEE 605-2008 (Bus Ratings) and see how our customers are modeling them in Cascade Facility Ratings today.

Allen has been employed by DNV GL for over 15 years and is currently focused in implementing Cascade and Cascade Facility Ratings for our customers.  Prior to joining DNV GL he worked as an engineer for an electric utility using our software solutions.
