India is the fourth-largest wind power producer in the world and following the announcement of its government’s plans to achieve 5 GW of offshore wind by 2022 and 30GW by 2030, the Facilitating Offshore Wind in India (FOWIND) consortium was tasked with paving the way into a new era of energy generation.

The consortium implemented a four-year project to develop a roadmap for offshore wind development in India, with a focus on the states of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. As the project’s technical partner, DNV GL leveraged its international offshore wind and local market expertise to deliver milestone reports that are enabling the Government of India and its stakeholders to bring this new market to fruition. The project was successfully concluded, with feasibility reports for both Gujarat and Tamil Nadu now available for viewing.

In this webinar, our experts will share the key findings of the FOWIND project and the industry’s next steps, including insights on wind turbine technology and technical requirements for integration into the local grid.

About FOWIND

The EU Delegation to India, in close cooperation with the Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, awarded a €4 million grant to a GWEC led consortium under the Indo-European Cooperation on Renewable Energy programme. The resulting 4-year Facilitating Offshore Wind in India (FOWIND) project sought to facilitate India’s transition towards low carbon development by supporting implementation of national policies and programmes for offshore wind. The project served as a roadmap for offshore wind development in India, supported by preliminary resource assessments to identify potential areas for development along the coasts of the States of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.
