Presentation: Safer, Smarter, Greener – The role Energy Storage will play in Sub-Saharan Africa

Presentation abstract: Dr Matthew Rowe will present the DNV GL Energy Transition Outlook for Sub-Saharan Africa out to 2050 and the role that energy storage will play in the energy transition. Matthew will discuss the status and range of available energy storage technologies, and draw on international examples to show the benefits storage technologies are providing to energy systems across the globe. Drawing on the requirements for energy storage and the technology, Matthew will then present example business cases for energy storage, and highlight the importance of the technology selection in making the business models bankable.
Speaker overview: Dr Matthew Rowe is a Senior Consultant at DNV GL Energy and is currently leading the Energy Storage practice. Matthew has a PhD in Energy Storage and has published in internationally recognised energy journals and often presents at academic and industrial conferences both locally and outside of the UK.
Matthew is taking an active industry role in enhancing and supporting energy storage and is currently the Chair of the largest energy storage trade body in the UK and Vice Chair of the Energy Storage British Standards Institute committee. Since joining DNV GL Matthew has worked on a variety of projects globally with key industry stakeholders such as System Operators, Regulators, Governments and a variety of Investors, developers, suppliers and DNOs.
