Limitations on the acceptance of components with TA certificates on vessels based on a different rule set than that of the certificate

With respect to the acceptance of certificates on vessels with an applicable rule set different from that of the Type Approval certificate, the following limitations apply:

ComponentLimitations
Bridge Alert Management system (BAMS)BAMS with TA certificates based on the GL rules need case-by-case approval for vessels with the DNV or DNV GL NAUT notation.
Fire-extinguishing systemsFire-extinguishing systems for the protection of galley extract ducts with a TA certificate based on DNV rules need to be tested and approved in accordance with ISO 15371 (2009) in order for the product to be installed on vessels with GL or DNV GL rules as the applicable rule set.
Control systemsControl systems with TA certificates based on GL rules will need case-by-case certification as required by DNV/DNV GL rules in order to be installed on vessels with DNV or DNV GL rules as the applicable rule set.
Accommodation ladders and gangways, winches, hydraulic cylinders for cranes, mooring and towing equipment as well as slewing bearings.TA certificates for accommodation ladders and gangways, including relevant accessories, winches with gears and brakes, hydraulic cylinders for cranes, mooring and towing equipment as well as slewing bearings are not accepted on vessels with an applicable rule set different from that of the TA certificate. For example, an accommodation ladder certified in accordance with GL rules is not accepted installed on a vessel with DNV or DNV GL rules as the applicable rule set.
ThrustersTA certificates for propeller plant and shaft seal for thrusters are not accepted on vessels with an applicable rule set different from that of the TA certificate. Thrusters with a TA certificate based on GL rules must document compliance with the criteria for scuffing and subsurface fatigue of gear wheels as required by DNV and DNV GL rules in order to be installed on vessels with these as the applicable rule set.
Air pipe headsAir pipe heads with a TA certificate based on GL rules must be made from sea water-resistant material in order to be installed on vessels with DNV or DNV GL rules as the applicable rule set.
CompensatorsCompensators made of non-metallic materials with a TA certificate based on GL rules shall have passed an endurance test in order to be installed on vessels with DNV or DNV GL rules as the applicable rule set. Compensators of metallic materials with a DNV TA certificate shall have passed endurance and burst tests in order to be installed on vessels with GL rules as the applicable rule set.
