Call for entries: Nominations for Offshore Wind Innovation Award

DNV GL and Association Renewable Energy Hamburg present the first Offshore Innovation Award.

HAMBURG, Germany - 14 February 2019  DNV GL and the association Renewable Energy Hamburg are now accepting submissions for their first Offshore Wind Innovation Award. The winner will be selected by a public electronic vote live during the Hamburg Offshore Wind Conference and will receive a price amounting to EUR 2,000. 

The award honours companies, universities or individuals for outstanding products for offshore wind energy use, in particular, innovative changes or improvement to standard products with the potential for significant cost reductions of offshore wind projects. Fields of application might be the development of turbines, installation or maintenance improvements. The full evaluation criteria are outlined below.

Registrations to the competition are now open until 15 March 2019. To submit your entry, please send an email to ‘how.innovationaward@dnvgl.com’, the registration form can be downloaded here. 

Evaluation criteria
The evaluation criteria for the pre-selection for the Offshore Innovation Award 2019 are determined by the value of benefit in practice and market success, the degree of (technical) innovation, the potential for significant cost reduction for offshore wind farms, the overall professional impression, as well as the practical feasibility.

Jan Ripens, Managing Director at Renewable Energy Cluster Hamburg (REH) said: “Offshore wind is key for the German and global energy transition, and it is innovation that drives technologies forward. The organizers call to attract companies, scientists, universities, institutes or individuals handing in their innovative ideas for the offshore wind energy sector.

Renewable Energy Hamburg
Around 190 companies from the renewable energies industry are involved in efforts to achieve energy transition in the Renewable Energy Hamburg industry network. These include manufacturers, project developers, financing bodies and research institutes from the Hamburg metropolitan region. Major projects involving the Renewable Energy Hamburg Cluster include: “Norddeutsche EnergieWende 4.0 (North German Energy Transition, NEW 4.0)”, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, and the EU Interreg project Northern Connection.
