The strong reduction of the idle containership fleet, which started in March 2017, has come to an end. In May/June 2017, the idle fleet increased again slightly and now forms 2.6% of the global containerships. Globally, containership capacity of 538,000 TEU is waiting for employment. The increase of inactive vessels happened in the smallest size segment (below 3,000 TEU), which increased to 125 inactive vessels. Besides these, there are nine vessels in the 8,000-10,000 TEU size group inactive. This includes five ships, formerly operated by Hanjin Shipping, which have yet to find new employment.
