DNV GL has appointed Mr Uwe Bullwinkel as the new Maritime Regional Manager for the Middle East and India. Formerly the Head of the Americas Region for Germanischer Lloyd, Uwe Bullwinkel has been with the classification society for almost 25 years and has held roles which have seen him in locales from Hamburg to Houston.
“In the Middle East and India, we are seeing the growth of players in the industry who are expanding into new areas and challenging traditional market strongholds. In particular, the burgeoning offshore market, both in oil and gas and renewable energy, is an area where customers will benefit from the expanded technical capabilities we have as a result of the merger. These are projects of massive scale and technical complexity, often in harsh environments, where we will be able to bring even great cross industry expertise to help our customer manage risk,” said Mr Bullwinkel.
“We already have a number of significant projects underway with Middle Eastern customers in the container and offshore support vessels markets and look forward to many more ambitious projects as these areas take off over the next few years. In India shipbuilding and repair looks poised to take a real step forward and we are looking forward to developing many exciting ventures with our customers in the region. At the same time we are also working on contracts for the Indian Navy and Naval yards, helping recycling yards adapt to the new regulatory climate, providing systems certification and providing training across the sub-continent.”
In his former role as head of Head of Americas for GL Mr Bullwinkel was based in Houston and responsible for North, Central and South America, with offices in Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Chile. Mr Bullwinkel qualified as an engineer for ship operation technology and was a Chief Engineer on LPG carriers. He served on eight vessels from 1981 to 1988 before he joined Germanischer Lloyd in 1989 as a surveyor. Over a career in which he has held many and varied roles at GL, Mr Bullwinkel’s major assignments included the establishment of GL Ukraine, the position of country manager Belgium and before his post as Head of Americas, Area Manager of Germany.
