Hamburg, Germany, January 2017 - DNV GL, the world’s largest resource of independent energy experts and certification body, has awarded Starkstrom - Gerätebau GmbH (SGB) with component certification for its latest transformer. The transformer type DTTH1NG 2500/30, 50 Hz has been developed specifically for use in wind turbines.

The transformer has been certified according to DNV GL’s Guideline for the Certification of Wind Turbines (GL-IV-I) and been delivered to a very tight deadline, DNV GL’s team of experienced technical experts managed together with customer’s engineers to go through the entire certification process and issue the certificate within two months. During this process, the component has been thoroughly assessed to ensure the quality of the product relating to safety, functionality and quality that are needed for use in the tough environment of wind turbines. Furthermore, it will simplify and speed up the overall certification process of new wind turbines for the manufacturers.

Rüdiger Weinhardt, Director of Sales & Service at SGB, commented: “We are very pleased that we have chosen DNV GL as our certification body for this project. In today’s market, approved and certified products are a key to economic success and with strong technical expertise DNV GL has proven to be a trusted and reliable partner. The certification underlines the quality of Starkstrom Gerätebau GmbH (SGB), its production process and documentation, providing our customers with confidence that our component is meeting worldwide technical requirements and standards. Thanks to this certification, the development on new wind turbines will be faster, easier and risk-free for our customers.”

Dr. Matthias-Klaus Schwarz, Head of Section Electrical System, DNV GL, added: “It’s been a pleasure to work with SGB on this assignment and in providing the Component Certification for their transformer in less than two month. Winning this certification contract, proves that DNV GL is a trusted certification partner for this global wind turbine component supplier. We look forward to working with the SGB team on further certifications in the future.”
