DNV GL becomes Technical Partner to ResponsibleSteel™

The global certification body DNV GL teams up with ResponsibleSteel™ to provide expert technical advice in the development of a steel certification standard.

ResponsibleSteel™ is a not-for-profit organisation currently developing an independent certification standard to improve responsible sourcing and reduce risk in the steel supply chain. As the Technical Partner, DNV GL will provide independent expert technical advice in the development of the standard.

Massimo Berlin, Regional Manager, DNV GL - Business Assurance said: “We saw a logical fit with the ResponsibleSteel™ mission, which is to give businesses and consumers, globally, the confidence that steel has been sourced and produced responsibly at all levels, from raw materials suppliers to end users. This standard will make a significant positive impact, and we are proud to be engaged with the sector and ResponsibleSteel™ at this stage of the development.”

Acting as a trusted independent third party, DNV GL has significant experience of certification schemes and sustainability. With a global technical expert network and on the ground experience of the practical challenges organisations face with emerging standards, the company brings extensive industry knowledge and experience, from many years in steel production.

Matthew Wenban-Smith, Executive Director, ResponsibleSteel™ said “The demand for a global sustainability based standard to cover the steel sector is growing, and we are delighted that DNV GL have agreed to become our Technical Partner. With their extensive knowledge and experience across a range of sectors that rely heavily on responsibly produced steel, we have a highly respected Technical Partner to support us on the development of the ResponsibleSteel™ Standard.”
