DNV GL has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Technology Centre for Offshore and Marine Singapore (TCOMS) at the launch of the centre in Singapore on 31 October.
TCOMS aims to enable the local marine and offshore engineering industry to "undertake higher-value activities" through global partnerships with industry, research institutions and academia.
The centre will be housing a next generation Deepwater Ocean Basin, scheduled for completion in 2019. The ocean basin facility is equipped with state-of-the art wave and current generation systems that could simulate harsh ocean environments, including those in ultra-deep waters which would facilitate the development of innovative concepts including intelligent floating platforms and ships, autonomous systems, marine robotics and subsea systems.
Under the MOU agreement, DNV GL and TCOMS will jointly carry out research to develop innovative designs for future marine and offshore systems, including research to increase the understanding of extreme wave effects. Using digital technology is a key part of the agreement including use of digital twins, smart sensors and integrated modelling.
