DNV GL ends operations in Iran by 4th November

After the international sanctions against Iran were lifted in 2016, DNV GL reopened its office in Tehran. During these two years, we have mainly delivered classification services to international shipping companies. In May the United States government announced reintroduction of sanctions against Iran in two stages, on 6 August and 4 November 2018, respectively.

A dedicated DNV GL team has followed developments closely and has assessed implications for our company since President Trump declared the unilateral withdrawal from the international nuclear agreement with Iran.

International financial transactions involving Iran have become impossible and the impending US sanctions are negatively influencing the business climate and opportunities.  Against this background, and to comply with the sanctions imposed by the US government, it has been decided by Group CEO Remi Eriksen to close down the DNV GL operations in Iran.

Our operations in Iran will cease within 4 November 2018.

DNV GL complies with all relevant international and national sanctions regulations. We regularly consult with legal advisers and authorities in Norway, the EU and the US to ensure that our business remains in compliance with all applicable requirements.
