DNV GL issued standard for Transport and installation of wind power plants

The new standard provides the approach ensuring the structural integrity of the main components of the wind power plant during the transport, installation and decommissioning

HAMBURG, Germany - 29 March 2018 – DNV GL, the world’s largest independent energy advisory and certification body, has published its new Renewables Certification standard DNVGL-ST-0054 “Transport and installation of wind power plants” in co-operation with a wide number of industry players: wind turbine developers, wind park operators, investors, transportation companies and suppliers in the summer of 2017.

The main objective of it is to provide the approach ensuring the structural integrity of the main components of the wind power plant during the transport, installation and decommissioning works. 

The standard shall serve as:

  • a guidance for designers, suppliers, purchasers and regulators for safe design and execution of transport and installation procedures (T&I) based on a risk-based approach;
  • a contractual reference document between suppliers and customers;
  • a part of the technical basis for carrying out of verification services in respect of the integrity of the asset during the transport and installation.

It is applicable for the planning, compilation and execution of transport and installation procedures and it summarizes essential T&I aspects to be observed within different project phases.

Requirements for the design and manufacturing of the installation vessels, lifting appliances and sea fastening are covered by other marine warranty survey specific DNV GL standards including DNVGL-ST-N001 “Marine operations and marine warranty”.
