DNV GL releases the new issue of Gas Carrier Update magazine

Just in time for Gastech, DNV GL has published the classification society’s latest Gas Carrier Update magazine. It features outstanding projects with customers as well as market and technology trends in the gas carrier sector.

“It is the ambition of DNV GL to support the entire maritime gas industry as it strives to become more energy-efficient and environment-friendly while improving the cost effectiveness of its operations,” says Johan Petter Tutturen, Segment Director Gas Carriers at DNV GL – Maritime. “Last year we developed new rules for LNG bunkering vessels and assisted yards and owners in developing new concept designs for the carriage of LNG and LPG. We launched new rules for REGAS and supported the efforts of owners to optimize their energy consumption through our new, ground-breaking tool COSSMOS.”

This issue of Gas Carrier Update includes some of the following topics:

  • Time for remodelling? – Amid a growing number of LNG importing nations the demand for natural gas is increasing, especially from Asia. With new players, a growing tanker fleet and changing patterns, the LNG trade is undergoing a remarkable transformation.
  • Making headway into alternative fuels – LPGreen, a joint development project between four leaders in the maritime industry, is working on a concept design for an LPG carrier capable of operating on LPG fuel.
  • Low-pollution energy for emerging markets – With its newbuilding programme, Höegh aspires to become the leading global provider of FSRUs for LNG.
  • Saving coastal ecosystems – With the Ballast Water Management Convention coming into force in September, shipowners and operators have little time left to ensure compliance. DNV GL provides comprehensive support.
  • Pushing the frontier – Hartmann and Star-Gas Tank Design adapted their Star-Trilobe concept for the next generation of 85,000 cubic metre VLECs.
