HAMBURG, Germany – 15 November 2018 - DNV GL, the world’s largest independent energy advisory and certification body, together with the association Renewable Energy Hamburg Cluster (REH) today announced that the cooperation was extended by another year to host the 16th Hamburg Offshore Wind Conference. The event will take place under the motto “From ‘if’ to ‘HOW’- Ready to Realise an Ambitious Renewables Road Map”.

The two cooperation partners announced the detailed programme for the event, targeted at offshore wind industry decision takers in Hamburg. The event will take place on the 2nd and 3rd of April 2019, starting with a political panel discussion about the role of offshore wind in the German Energiewende to set the scene for the next conference day.

On April 3rd the conference will review the first ten years of offshore wind projects in operation in Germany.

Once again, leading executives and representatives of the offshore wind industry will share insights on the future, opportunities and challenges of the industry.

The following speakers have confirmed their participation at the event:

  • Dr Peter Tschentscher, First Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg
  • Irina Lucke, Managing Director at EWE AG

Jan Rispens, Managing director of the Renewable Energy Cluster says: “Wind and particularly offshore wind will be the keys in Germany’s and Europe’s energy future and have the biggest unused growth potential in the renewable energy mix.  Our first-class speakers will share their insights on future trends, both in technology like floating wind, as in market tendencies like zero-cent auctions and tender regulation. We look forward to welcoming our guests to HOW 2019 to discuss current and upcoming developments in our extremely fast maturing industry”

While the general set up of the conference remains unchanged compared to 2018 and again includes an industry keynote, high-level panel discussions and a networking dinner on the evening of the 2nd of April, the hosts announced a new session which gives several companies the opportunity to pitch their offshore wind innovations. The conference audience will choose the winner of the “Offshore Innovation Award 2019”.

“The industry needs new developments and fast action more than ever before managing

complex regulatory, logistic and infrastructural challenges. DNV GL and the Renewable Energy Hamburg Cluster thus again join forces to discuss best practices and present solutions with the most experienced players. But also new players and their innovative concepts are needed on the way to a decarbonized world”, says Marko Ibsch, Managing Director at DNV GL. “That is also why DNV GL and REH implemented the first ‘Offshore Innovation Award 2019’ into the agenda to give new as well as established industry players the opportunity to present new offshore concepts during the conference.” The application phase starts on the 1st of February 2019.

The Hamburg Offshore Wind Conference (HOW) is highly renowned due to its high-level technical and political content as well as its networking opportunities. In the last few years, each conference was sold out with about 200 participants.
