Seminar on Fleet Performance and Hull degradation recently held by DNV GL Experts and Jotun

Singapore, Hamburg 23rd July 2015: More than 120 representatives of Singapore’s shipping community gathered at DNV GL’s seminar on fleet performance and hull degradation recently held at Park Hotel in Western Singapore.

More than 120 representatives of Singapore’s shipping community recently took part in DNV GL’s seminar on fleet performance and hull degradation.

In “Building blocks of fleet performance management” Torsten Büssow, Global Head of Fleet Performance Management at DNV GL, assembled key ingredients for a performance management system and highlighted the importance of snapshot data and good reference / baselines.

Andreas Krapp, Senior Analyst Hull Performance Solutionsat Jotun, gave insights into “hull performance strategies”. He said that moving from a basic coating and regular cleaning to a customized coating could result not only in prolonging the intervals between dry docking without cleaning, but superior performance overall. However, the challenge, he noted, was how to measure this benefit.

DNV GL’s Regional Manager for Maritime Advisory, Khorshed Alam, explained in “Advantages of CFD for hull performance assessments” how different hull degradation computations results can become, if model tank tests with only a few draft and speed points are used. DNV GL's very dense power demand predictions based on hundreds of CFD calculations solves this problem.

Lastly, Kaushik Seal, Business Development Leader for DNV GL’s performance solutions, went through a case study showing how ECO Insight can enable customers achieve cost savings.

“We were positively surprised by the large attendance and the lively discussions,” says Tony Linden, Regional Business Development Director in Singapore, “this supports and proves the results of our 2015 Energy Management Study, which highlights performance management as the single most important subject for the industry currently.”
