Updated rules & standards for DNV GL mobile offshore units

The new Offshore Class rules and standards are based on the consolidation of two parallel rules sets from the legacy DNV and Germanischer Lloyd organizations, following the merger in 2013. The update results in a modern and more user friendly structure and reduced complexity but implicate no change in technical requirements for vessels previously classed either DNV or GL.

In the process the legacy DNV Offshore Classification rules and standards for the mobile offshore segments were used as a baseline and mapped against the legacy GL Offshore Class rules. Mapping the two rules sets showed that the majority of requirements were already aligned, which is illustrating our common approach and service delivery. Therefore, there will be no change in technical requirements and just minor adjustments of the document structure, with some new reference numbers and documentation types.

An overview of the changes can be found here.

The updated Offshore Class rules and standards under DNV GL format can be found under My DNV GL or here.

Ernst Meyer

In this consolidation process it has been essential that we remove complexity, simplify language and make our rules and standard’s easier to read and interpret without lowering the safety level or introducing costly consequences for our customers.
