DNV GL strengthens oil and gas services with well blowout and kill modelling solution

Well blowout and kill modelling
DNV GL is pleased to announce the launch of its well blowout and kill modelling solution, delivered both as a stand-alone service and as an integrated part of established services, such as environmental risk (ERA) and oil spill contingency analyses (OSCA).

Blowout rates and release durations are vital inputs into ERA and OSCA analyses, and it is essential to address these parameters thoroughly prior to any additional analysis work. In addition, our experience carrying out blowout analyses for oilfield developments on the Norwegian Continental Shelf has highlighted the importance of taking a targeted approach in order to obtain a more realistic risk picture and more robust data. As part of the blowout and kill modelling solution, DNV GL takes into consideration specific factors such as the platform used, the type of well operations, evolution in reservoir conditions and uncertainties in the reservoir parameters.

DNV GL’s well and flow technology experts perform the blowout and dynamic kill simulations using the multiphase flow simulator OLGA and its associated flow modules. Blowout assessment and modelling is applicable to both planned activities (e.g. exploration/development drilling), as well as for oil and gas wells during production. The service can be carried out in line with governmental regulations and/or operator-specific requirements.
