Challenge

Conventional risers in deepwater applications are challenged by high top-tension and corrosive environments.

Solution

This project aims to develop a DNV GL standard for carbon fibre tensile armour for flexible risers.

Benefits

The new standard will open access to new deepwater projects. Carbon fibre tensile elements will result in lighter risers with lower top-tension. Carbon fibre is also less prone to degradation in aggressive environments, and shows very good fatigue performance.

Value

Weight reductions and lower top-tension results in installed cost savings in ultra-deep waters of

~25% */**

*   Reduced buoyancy and installation cost (riser system only)
