DNV GL flow laboratory


Flow assurance verification and test programmes typically take several months to execute. These are often performed at either small-scale, university-type facilities (which do not reflect field conditions) or industry-scale facilities, where operational limitations result in reduced accuracy. 


This project aims to develop a more efficient way of testing by expanding DNV GL’s multiphase flow laboratory in Groningen, The Netherlands. This facility was specifically built for multiphase flow meter testing. It is therefore very efficient and highly accurate.


E&P contractors will be able to perform flow assurance tests at DNV GL’s Groningen facility. The main benefit is that the lab facilitates high pressure large scale test in a very efficient manner while maintaining high accuracy and operational reliability, so that more and better data can be obtained. 


Higher quality data is a necessity for assessing multiphase hydrocarbon flows to avoid potential failure or outages of transport systems. Damage to equipment and production limitations can cost millions of dollars in loss of profit.
