Pre-lay and post-lay seabed intervention are significant cost contributors to offshore projects. There is however no consistent guidance on pipe-soil, pipe-rock and pipe-concrete mattress design.

Solution

Harmonise the current provisions in existing DNV GL codes into a single, coherent DNV GL Recommended Practice on offshore pipe-soil, pipe-rock, and pipe-concrete mattress interaction.

Take advantage recent research to improve design and installation efficiency.

Value

For a 20”, 10km long buried pipeline, reducing the rock cover height by 0.5m represents savings of over 15,000 tonnes of rock. This means millions of dollars of material and installation savings, as well as less environmental impact.
