Design of pressure protection system is a task that typically falls between disciplines; Process safety, Technical safety and Pipeline design. A variety of different codes applies (e.g. topside, pipeline, subsea, instrumentation) both prescriptive, goal based or probabilistic requirements. This makes design of pressure protection systems complex.
Establish a code bridging document covering; pressure levels, barrier philosophy and pressure protection trigger levels. It will also include challenges with respect to interface to different operators and availability of system.
Provide a simplify decision process with respect to pressure protection systems and interfaces between pipelines.
Increased confidence in pressure protection system and potentially reduced pipe wall thickness.
Decreased decision time.
