Hybrid power system to increase energy efficiency in oil and gas

Trends show that oil and gas production has become more energy demanding, and the oil prices are dropping. At the same time, global focus on climate change is triggering the oil and gas industry to reduce emissions and increase energy efficiency. This JIP will investigate and test hybrid power systems which can increase energy efficiency, creating cost savings and contributing to company or national goals on emission reduction.

Challenge

  • Trends show that oil and gas production has become more energy demanding, and the oil prices are dropping. At the same time global focus on climate change is triggering the oil & gas industry to reduce emissions and increase energy efficiency.

Delivery

  • Increased energy efficiency creates cost savings in terms of reduced cost for both fuel and CO2 taxes, and contributes to company or national goals on emission reduction. In addition hybrid systems can increase system performance.

Benefits

  • Identify and select hybrid technologies. Investigate applicability, design and performance (including cost)
  • Lab-scale testing to ensure that storage and recovery units of the system performs according to requirements
  • Full scale demonstration of the hybrid power system and documentation of results
