Energy efficiency potential and strategy studies show that the commercial sector continues to offer enormous opportunities for cost-effective energy efficiency improvements, benefiting building owners, product and service vendors, and program administrators. However, in many regions, levels of participation in commercial energy efficiency programs lag behind targets, raising concern that the low-hanging fruit of simple technology change-outs has been harvested and motivated customer segments are fully saturated.

DNV GL summarizes the results of a national survey of 497 medium-sized and large commercial facilities and managers who are on the frontlines of energy efficiency.  The survey probes respondents on their current energy management efforts, implementation of energy efficiency measures, perceptions of the business impact of energy efficiency, external assistance sought to implement retrofits and achieve goals, and participation in efficiency programs. Our findings provide actionable insights for program administrators and service providers who seek to gain greater savings and business from commercial customers.
