A survey of local government leaders and industry stakeholders in North America
Many cities in North America are experiencing an accelerated increase in population, economic activity, and household income levels. This is creating shared challenges for cities and utilities that include growing demand for water, energy, heating and cooling, waste services, transportation, and data and telecommunications. Consumers increasingly expect expanded services from municipalities and utilities such as renewable energy and digital self-services, and they expect both entities to plan for and mitigate against climate-related effects such as extreme weather events. Utilities and cities are also driven by the need to meet regulatory requirements and develop strategies to cope with erosion of revenues.
