Safety Cases

Medical staff wheeling patient through hospital corridor

Many of the failures in patient safety have been attributed to the way safety is managed in and across healthcare organisations.

Several journal articles have argued that learning from safety critical industries (such as nuclear, aviation or offshore oil and gas) could provide better models for healthcare to manage risk.  The objectives of this project are to apply methods of risk analysis and the safety case approach in healthcare contexts and to test its feasibility and usefulness with the aim of developing a “best practice” for healthcare.
