Environmental impact assessment (EIA)

Transparent and independent

Major industrial projects and infrastructure developments require an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). The key challenge is to be transparent in communicating predicted impacts.

DNV's environmental impact assessments provide an objective basis for decision-making and are relevant for offshore and onshore oil and gas exploration, development, production, decommissioning and infrastructure projects.

Our procedure is based on World Bank standards, and each EIA we undertake is designed to meet national and regional regulatory requirements and company standards.

Our multidisciplinary, integrated approach can identify, predict and evaluate potential impacts, suggest sound environmental solutions and adequate mitigation measures, and provide a high quality basis for major decisions and smooth authority approval.

We recommend early and wide stakeholder engagement and open and transparent communication throughout planning and execution. Our methodology enables us to predict and present impacts in a way that is easy to communicate: the assessments are transparent and indicate the degree of uncertainty in the decision basis and results.

Before carrying out the EIA, we perform a screening and scoping exercise so that efforts can be focused on the most significant issues and parameters.

Benefits of the service:

  • DNV's reputation for independence and trustworthiness
  • Objective basis for decision-making
  • Screening and scoping exercise to identify key issues and parameters
  • Service meets World Bank EIA standards.
