Providing food and preserving health are key elements of sustainable development. However, food production globalization and supply chain complexity endanger food safety control. In healthcare, the mismatch between an ever-increasing demand for healthcare services and limited resources makes the current delivery care models unsustainable.

Delivering safe effective and efficient healthcare is already a global challenge. Digitalization, connectivity and new medical technologies have the potential to improve healthcare sustainability, if properly used. 

The objective of the Life Sciences program is to build knowledge that support the transformational changes that are needed to ensure global and safe food supply, and safe, effective and efficient healthcare delivery. 

The Life Sciences program has three research focus areas:
