Some engineering experience or experience as a draftsman

Who should attend:
Yard: Engineers (naval architects)

This course is designed for draftsmen who are starting work at a shipyard or ship design office. Due to fluctuating demands in the maritime industry it is sometimes observed that engineers transfer from other disciplines and need to be familiarised very quickly with ship structural design. This course reviews the basic aspects of ship structural design, focusing on helping participants to gain a qualitative and comprehensive understanding of the subject.

The course focuses on:

  • Basic concepts of structural design (material, failure modes, modelling)
  • Rule-based design (role of classification society, longitudinal strength, background of rules exemplified for bulkheads)
  • Corrosion and design for corrosion
  • Design for fatigue
