Course description

DNVGL-RP-F105 is a world-leading recommended practice for free spanning pipelines. The new revision of DNVGL-RP-F105 opens for application to jumpers, spools, goosenecks, doglegs, manifold piping, piping systems and flex-loops (or any other pipe-systems with bends). The course describes the fundamental problems of vortex-induced vibrations (VIV) on pipe geometries which include bends. A complete formulation of relevant limit states and calculation methodologies for each limit state is given.

Learning objective

  • Understand how to apply DNVGL-RP-F105 to jumpers, spools, goosenecks, doglegs, manifold piping, piping systems and flex-loops.
  • Be able to account for all relevant differences between 3D pipes and traditional applications such as free spans and risers.
  • Be able to perform VIV screening, VIV fatigue assessments and include contributions from hydrodynamic loading on extreme load calculations.
  • A general methodology to perform direct wave loading calculations on 3D pipes.
  • Fundamental understanding of the full probabilistic treatment of environmental conditions and the safety factor format which ensures safe and reliable operation of 3D pipes when VIV and direct wave loading causes cyclic loading.
