New container lashing rules
DNV GL’s updated rules enable much more realistic and precise computation of container stowage and lashing.
Ships are becoming much bigger – and cargo securing techniques are evolving, allowing operators to transport more containers and greater weights. DNV GL developed a brand-new calculation method to calculate the forces acting upon the containers and lashing equipment much more realistically, thereby bringing the quality of lashing force calculation to an entirely new level.
The new method uses a 3D container model, which accounts for torsional forces and allows for more exact calculation results. This means that loads on lashing rods, induced by hatch cover and/or lashing bridges deformation or dynamic forces resulting from twistlock clearance, can now be captured.
Upgraded StowLash 2.0 software, now with 3D
The StowLash3D software is based on the most state-of-the-art calculation method available on the market today. Although a complex calculation method is used, the software remains very easy to use. An integrated solution based on a validated container model, the software performs rapidly and reliably in spite of the iterative and non-linear calculations. StowLash3D can be easily integrated in all major cargo planning and on-board loading software by using the Software Development Kit provided by DNV GL.
