Efficiently lowering the risk of accidents
North Sea pipeline operator, Gassco, had pipe-in-pipe bundle with 17 consecutive, interacting free spans with lengths of 65m-83m. A planned rock dump campaign was canceled based on findings from the Global Free Span service, which resulted in cost savings of 600-900k USD.
This export pipeline operated in the North Sea by Gassco had at several times been rock dumped based on previous recommendations from engineering companies. A total cost of 1.9-2.6 MUSD was demonstrated by the new Global Free Span Service to be unnecessary.
The Global Free Span service model was applied to a 33km pipeline with severe scouring issues on the North West Shelf outside of Australia, with the result that previous intervention campaigns were deemed unnecessary.
